Lowercase Converter: what to know

The lowercase converter turns every capital letter in your text into its lowercase form. Everything else, from spacing and punctuation to emoji and line breaks, stays as it was.

The most common reason to use it is text typed with Caps Lock on by accident. Lowercase is also handy for normalizing lists before comparing or de-duplicating them, for email addresses and usernames, and for tags and hashtags.

Lowercasing changes names and acronyms too. If you want sentences to start with a capital again, Sentence case in the case converter does both steps at once.

Popular uses

  • Fixing a paragraph typed with Caps Lock on
  • Normalizing email addresses and usernames
  • Preparing lists before removing duplicates
  • Writing tags, hashtags and file names

Tips for the best result

  • Email addresses are treated as case-insensitive by most providers, so lowercase makes duplicates easy to spot.
  • Use Capitalize Sentences afterwards to restore capitals at the start of sentences.
  • Accented capitals such as É and Ö become é and ö correctly.
