Shuffle Lines: what to know
Shuffle Lines puts the lines of your list in a random order. Press 'Shuffle again' as many times as you like for a new order each time.
It uses the Fisher-Yates shuffle, which gives every possible order the same chance when its random numbers are uniform. The random seed comes from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and the shuffle itself runs on your device.
Empty lines are removed by default so blank entries don't end up in your result. Each line is treated as one entry, whatever it contains, so you can shuffle names, questions, URLs or whole sentences, and copy or download the new order as a .txt file.
Popular uses
- Randomizing quiz and exam questions
- Drawing names for a raffle or giveaway
- Picking a random order for presentations or turns
- Shuffling a playlist, word list or flashcards
Tips for the best result
- To pick one winner, shuffle and take the first line.
- Keep a copy of your original list; the shuffle replaces the order completely.
- For draws with prizes, follow your contest's rules and record how the draw was done.
