Text to Slug: what to know

Text to Slug turns titles and phrases into clean URL slugs. 'Café & Crème Brûlée: 10 Tips!' becomes cafe-and-creme-brulee-10-tips: accents are removed, '&' becomes 'and', letters such as ß and æ are spelled out, and everything that isn't a letter or digit becomes a separator.

Convert a whole list at once by pasting one title per line. Options choose hyphens or underscores, keep capitals, remove filler words (a, the, of...), cap the length at a word boundary, or keep letters from non-Latin scripts.

Google's URL guidelines recommend hyphens rather than underscores between words, which is why hyphens are the default.

Popular uses

  • Creating blog post and page URLs
  • Naming files and folders consistently
  • Generating IDs and anchors for headings
  • Building product URLs for an online store

Tips for the best result

  • Shorter slugs are easier to read and share; remove filler words or set a maximum length.
  • Once a page is published, keep its slug; changing it later needs a redirect.
  • Turn off 'Latin letters only' to keep Cyrillic, Greek or other scripts, which browsers display as typed.
